Garrison is in her third term as State Representative from the 93rd district. As Representative, Garrison has been dedicated to protecting families, finding a solution for school funding and creating jobs for Ohioans.
Garrison sits on the Elections and Ethics Committee, Public Utilities and Energy Committee, Agriculture Committee, and Finance and Appropriations Committee and the Primary and Secondary Education Subcommittee.
Garrison is committed to improving transparency of government by regularly updating constituents on important issues in Columbus. She has published more than 150 articles on legislation before the Ohio General Assembly. These articles have allowed her to openly communicate about legislation with her constituents.
The Cincinnati-area native and daughter of a union plumber earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Xavier University. She then received her law degree from Catholic University Law School in Washington, D.C.
While pursing her law degree, Rep. Garrison interned for the Congressional Budget Office and worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio Department of Natural Resources as a legislative assistant. In this role, she lobbied Ohio’s Congressional delegation to support legislation that positively impacted Ohio’s funding for transportation and natural resources.
Rep. Garrison then completed a judicial clerkship in Philadelphia and became a practicing attorney. She moved to Marietta in 1990, joining the law firm of McCauley, Webster & Emrick, becoming partner in 1993. Three years later, Rep. Garrison opened her own private law practice where she concentrated on family law, estates, and general trial work. In addition, she ran Washington County Visitation Mediation Project for seven years that provided free mediation to parents working out their custody and visitation conflicts.
She is a former board member of the domestic violence shelter EVE, Washington County Mental Health & Alcohol Addiction Board, past Commissioner on the Marietta Civil Service Board, volunteer in the Marietta City School, and served as president of the Washington County, Ohio Bar Association from 1996 to 1997.
Rep. Garrison is a 2005 graduate of the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development Program. In 2008, she received the Ohio Economic Development Association’s “Distinguished Legislator” Award; the Ohio Federation of Teachers’ “Friend of Public Education” Legislator Award; and the “Friend of the Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center and Ohio State University Extension” Award.
This year she was awarded the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities’ Award for Legislative Excellence.
Garrison and her husband Russ have three children: Emily (17), Sam (15) and Max (10). They are members of Christ United Methodist Church in Marietta.
